Pretty, Happy, Funny — Real Life

I’m losing steam around here, and I’m only 26 weeks! I didn’t really take any pictures again this week. Sigh. But I do have a photo of a yummy, super-easy dinner I made:

The post with “recipe” and narrative will be up at Simple Pantry Cooking next week! You can make sure you won’t miss it by signing up to get Simple Pantry Cooking posts in your inbox!

We’re so close to having Simplified Dinners: Gluten- and Dairy-Free Edition ready to roll, but deployment of new site features and graphics takes time. One of the new features will be a short little video of myself, though. It’ll be fun. I just need to get over my cold and congestion so I sound normal!

[eye roll]. I don’t think we should talk about this. Let’s pretend it’s summer break.

This week and next is the “official” break week between Summer & Harvest terms, but the week before that pretty much nothing happened, either. After several weeks of really rolling through math, both Hans and Jaeger hit a harder lesson and a wall, and tears were shed and instead of banging my head against a wall and resorting to the helpful, “What don’t you get?!” we just left off and we’ll come back fresh and ready to tackle it after our vacation. They’d probably lose it and have to relearn it again after two weeks off anyway.

But, yes, no Circle Time, only one day of our listening time, and no preschool. The boys enjoy piano, so they did do their piano lessons of their own accord, but it’s been one of those weeks where immediately after breakfast, the boys drape themselves over the couch with their books. “Since when is this ok, people?! It’s chore time!”

I think a break and coming back to the routine fresh again afterwards will be good for us all. I have blog posts scheduled out over the next two weeks and I intend to take some extended disconnected time myself.

Real-Life Learning

Reading in the hammock or air conditioned living room, park time with friends, swimming with friends, camping with grandparents (Jaeger got to have a solo trip with them Saturday through Tuesday), picking fresh fruit and vegetables from our garden and friends’ — it’s been summer and there’s a place for enjoying it for what it is.

We had company for dinner the other night and I was running behind, so I tasked Hans with following the directions on a cookie recipe (I was preparing dinner while he was making the cookies). He did it entirely himself, with minimal conversational input from me as he went along! He even scooped them onto the trays and put them in and out of the oven. Both of us were quite pleased. :)

  • Home: Clear out our small back storage area.

I took care of the clothes and the boxes, but I haven’t listed the Craigslist items yet, and that’s what will clear the area and shelves so I can get the clothes containers out of the hall and into storage.

  • Family: Walk in the mornings every weekday.

Um. I have once this month. Hmph. I have my excuses, but I will spare you.

  • Project: Finish and launch Simplified Dinners: Gluten-Free & Dairy-Free Edition.

We’re really, really close. I have such a marvelous husband who does all the website and graphic development! I couldn’t publish the eBooks without his help.

And that’s that for this week.

So what I gather from this post is that you are completely normal. :) Love the playground picture!
