My kitchen has been pretty busy lately, with birthdays and company and just normal life. Surprisingly, it’s also been cleaner than usual – but that’s because of the “company” part. Nothing like having people over to incentivize housecleaning!

We had our small group Bible study over for a meal after church this Sunday. I made a big crockpot of black bean soup with roasted red peppers and artisan bread and then the other families brought salads and sides like vegetables and chips and bread.
Eating with other believers is a great way to spend a Sunday afternoon!
My husband’s birthday was this week, and so he got to make his favorite breakfast of all time: biscuit ring.
You won’t find the ingredients on my basic pantry list, that’s for sure. If you want the recipe to this delicacy, you’ll have to check out my husband’s ode to his childhood breakfast.
So, even though I have a whole ebook that I sell on keeping a basic pantry full so that you can make dinner with what’s on hand even if you don’t have a plan, after Christmas and the Whole30 debacle, my pantry was a mess. I wasn’t even sure what was in it, even though hardly anything was in it. So, I pulled everything out, put away dishes and other things I’d just tossed in there for quick storage that didn’t belong, and actually took inventory. Then I went shopping and filled the shelves back up with the items I am supposed to have.
Guess what? Having a pantry stocked with basic ingredients gives one peace of mind and makes dinner-making so much easier. Who would have guessed? :)
