You probably have systems that you are not even aware of. A system is just the way you do things, and the more you do something one way, the more automatic it becomes. One such simple system is the process by which dishes go from dirty to clean to put away.
Finding many small changes you can make to simplify average days at home will add up to significantly more calmness and drastically less stress. I think you’ll be surprised if you also try making similar little tweaks that reduce the load of decision making in the day to day.
Simple Home System: Dish washing process
Routinizing dishwashing makes life simpler.
You probably already have a similar system in your house. When someone picks up their dirty plate from the table after a meal, where do they take it? If they automatically put it in the same place every time, then you have a system.
For us, everyone – even the 2-year-old – brings their dirty dishes to the counter at the right side of the sink. Then the person on dish duty moves from right to left, loading the dishes into the dishwasher on his left or washing them by hand and putting them to dry on the counter above the dishwasher.
If a dish is on the right side of the sink, it means it is dirty.
If a dish is on the left side, it is clean and ready to be put away when dry.
That’s a system.
